| Outline |
Biochemistry is designed for students who are major in Biochemical Science and Technology and related biochemistry field. Biochemistry (1) is the part I of this course and covers most of the basic knowledge of biochemistry, including chemistry for amino acids, proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids. Recent advances in membrane biology and signal transduction are discussed after the lipid section. Biochemistry (2) is taught in the second term as the part II of this course. Biochemistry (2) covers the topics of bioenergetics, metabolism pathways for carbohydrate, lipids, proteins and nucleotides. How hormones regulate and integrate metabolism will summarize the part II of biochemistry. Due the students taking this course are expected to take Molecular Biology as a compulsory course, this course will not cover the details of gene expression and regulation. It is strongly recommended that students have strong background in General Biology and General Chemistry. Organic Chemistry with at least 4 credits is required before taking Biochemistry (1) and (2). |

| Introduction |
Bioprocessing for Value-Added Products from Renewable Resources: New Technologies and Applications This course will provide a comprehensive review on the fundamentals in biotechnology and bioprocess engineering as well as industrial examples of new bio-based products and advancements in technology development that are important to the general field of bioprocessing for value-added products from renewable resources. This course will first discuss modern technologies in the fields of genetic engineering and bioprocess engineering that are the cornerstones for building a new bio-based products industry. The course will review different organisms, ranging from bacteria to algae, that are suitable for bioprocessing with respective to their unique characteristics, process requirements, products, and applications. This course also will review important pretreatment and processing technologies for economical use of renewable resources as the feedstock to produce industrial products. Finally, a variety of unconventional and novel bioprocesses currently in development also will be discussed. |

開課理由 Introduction |
本課程之教學目標,在於使學生對現代結構生學之內容、重要性和其未來發展,有一較為全面而完整的認識。鑑於在最近的生命科學發展中,約略是以生命生理、結構生物、生命作用動態、生物資訊以及生命科技應用為五大發展方向。而就此目前之發展趨勢來說來分析,其中以結構生物和任何其它四個發展方向結合,無疑地已成為追求更深入之生命知識和科技研究的主要潮流之一。 本校目前有一類似但目標不相同的課程,是蛋白質結構與功能 (P05 U3230)。而與本課程部分內容將會和生物物理學 (B02 30100), 蛋白質體學 (P05 U9120) 以及生物資訊學 (P05 U9140)有關連。本課程在教學內容設計上,是以結構生物領域之整體觀念為主要養成目標,以理論、研究方法以及實際成功例子的三合一角度來引導學生對結構生物的全面認識。學生修畢之後,對於以上提及的四個學科之學習,將有十分正面之輔助效果。 |

本課程包括 16 個單元,課程架構概述如下: 1. 課程介紹 (單元 1) 2. 結構生物學之基本知識 (單元 2、3) 3. 蛋白各級結構和其四大主要功能 (單元 4、5) 4. 結構生物學之研究方法和工具 (單元 6、7、8) 5. 蛋白結構之形成、摺疊 (folding) 和蛋白品質之控制 (單元 9) 6. 蛋白結構預測和生物環境對蛋白功能之影響 (單元 10) 7. 以結構生物觀點看生命科學 (單元 11-15) 8. 結構生物學的未來動向和生物科技應用 (單元 16) 除教學課程外,學生將有指定之軟體使用作業,以提供實際學習應用之訓練。 |

荷爾蒙與調節物質乃人類與其他複雜之多細胞高等生物個體,對應環境改變時維持體內之恆定最重要的調節分子。其與正常生理及疾病關係十分密切。開授本課程係為使本系學生了解各種荷爾蒙與調節物質之生理、生化與分子作用機制,加強生化科技學系學生在生化領域的基礎,以利未來從事生化代謝、生理功能、分子生物及各種生物醫學相關領域等之研究。本課程將自生命個體整體巨觀 (生理) 之調節,至微觀之分子作用機制,介紹荷爾蒙與調節物質,使學生具有完整之概念。 |
